Project management and administration
I provide detail-oriented and effective administrative support.
Each of my professional roles has required substantial administrative work. While working as a data analyst at Trellis Strategies, I was responsible for maintaining an archive of completed deliverables and providing bi-weekly updates to coworkers on other teams. I also began the process of ensuring that our team complied with the organization's data retention policies. I catalogued all existing datasets and established a system for ensuring that data were anonymized according to the agreed-upon timeline. I also generated onboarding documents which I used to train an employee hired a month after I began in the role. These documents saved time for both the new hire and my supervisor and ensured that all relevant procedures were followed.
I managed my own research project for seven years while working as a graduate student at UT Austin. Years 1 and 2 of this project required annual proof of progress on the project, which were submitted to the department. I collaborated with my primary advisor, Dr. Patience Epps to develop the topic and structure of these reports. Years 3 and 4 also required annual reports, in the form of a Master's thesis and a project proposal, which were used to determine my eligiblity for PhD candidacy. I collaborated with both Dr. Epps and Dr. Scott Myers to develop and refine these proposals. I also independently applied for funding to support field research for each of the first three years of the project. For years one and two, I received several small grants each year. Each funding source required a written proposal and an estimated budget, as well as a summary report after the grant period had ended. In year 3, I received an NSF-DDRIG grant, which supported the project for the next four years. I was responsible for every aspect of this grant throughout its life cycle. I wrote the grant proposal, coordinated with university staff to collect supporting documents and develop a budget, and communicated with the grant program officer when changes to the project or budget were required. I provided timely annual reports on project outcomes and deliverables, and I independently filed for extensions to the project timeline (necessary due to delays caused by COVID-19).
While working with the Graduate Student Assembly at UT Austin, I served as the organization's Administrative Director from 2021 to 2022. In this position, I was responsible for all administrative tasks associated with running the organization, including coordinating with other members of the leadership team where appropriate. As President of the organization from 2022 to 2023 I was also responsible for many administrative tasks, including building agendas for internal team meetings, managing my own schedule alongside my full-time teaching and research obligations, completing weekly purchases, and working with the trademark and branding office to design and purchase merchandise.
From 2016 to 2017, I served as a legal advocate and the Children and Youth Unit intake coordinator at the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project. I was the first point of contact for all potential clients under the age of 18. I scheduled interviews, maintained communication with clients and their guardians, identified and scheduled interpreters, and coordinated our pro bono referral process. I was also responsible for conducting confidential intake interviews and providing detailed summaries (written and oral, as required) to staff attorneys. I completed and translated immigration and state court filing documents and organized supporting evidence. I also volunteered my skills as an interpreter at events for immigrants planning to independently file citizenship and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) applications.
